The natural direction of life is that of a spiral, a balanced continuous movement winding towards the center and releasing outward again. The spiral was a sacred symbol to all primitive peoples. It demonstrated the eternal rhythm of life of which we are all part.
The triple spiral design is unique to the Celtic peoples. The ancient design adorning their most sacred places represents the trinity of life in its many forms such as body, mind, and spirit. Most significantly, it represents the Goddess of these matriarchal people in Her forms of Maiden, Mother, and Old Wise Woman.
The continuous line of the triscele interlaces within itself representing the thread of life woven by the three fates in an eternal spiral, symbolizing the eternal path of one's spirit through the course of life, death, and rebirth.
