Horus The Winged Avenger Egyptian God Pendant Necklace
"Horus the Avenger" represents Horus the Egyptian Falcon God. His glorious wings are encircling the Solar Disk, symbol of the Egyption Sun God Ra; his eyes symbolize the Sun and the Moon. In his powerful claws, he clutches the Egyptian Ankh, the symbol of Everlasting Life; also representing the Mystical union between his parents Isis and Osiris, which initiated the annual flood of the Nile, and restored life to a desert land!
Horus was a major deity in Egyptian culture. His name means "he who is above" and "he who is distant." Legend says that Horus was the first to unite the kingdom of Egypt in 3000 BC, beginning the rise of the Egyptian pharaohs. The devotion to Horus, also known as the sky god and god of healing, was enhanced by the remarkable story of his birth, his extraordinary physical strength, and his unparalleled act of bravery in avenging his father's death. Horus was the son of Isis, goddess of fertility and motherhood, and Osiris, god of the underworld. As husband and wife, as well as brother and sister, Isis and Osiris were the divine rulers of the kingdom of Egypt. Unfortunately, the lust for the king's crown beset their kingdom with deceit and intrigue; especially in the heart of Osiris' malevolent brother, Set. Poisoned by evil intent, Set murdered Osiris, cut his broken body into pieces and spread the pieces throughout the land. Isis, skilled in magic and the use of talismans, collected the pieces, reassembled his body, and prepared her beloved husband for the passage into the underworld. Legend says the the divine child, Horus, was magically conceived by Isis, after Osiris' death!
When Horus was born, Isis' fear for her infant son's life caused her to retreat with the child to the marshes of the fertile Nile River. There she secretly raised the child-god and protected him from his murderous uncle, Set. Horus grew physically strong from his life outdoors, battling crocodiles, harsh weather, poisonous snakes and scorpions always on the alert for Set's evil presence.
Ultimately the two met in epic combat. Horus fought valiantly in this bloody battle to regain his crown, suffering the loss of his own eye, but succeeding in castrating Set. The earth god, Geb, pronounced Horus the victor in battle, and proclaimed him the God-king of Egypt. This legend of the Gods rang loud and clear to the people of Egypt. There would only be one ruler for their great land. Directly descended from Horus the Avenger, each Pharaoh his physical embodiment on Earth, a living God!
