Valhalla Runic Viking Warrior Pendant Necklace
This double-sided handcrafted item was created out of the finest excelsior (leadfree) pewter by Pepi and Co. in the USA
This pendant brings a reopening of the Spiritual Life, urging inspiration to achieve Victory over the transient material things and the ego, bringing courage, wholeness, and the divine energies of Odin, leading one to bond with the God Energy in their heart, not in the 'out there.' We are droplets of God, an essential part of everything. May these runes empower and protect the wearer to this path.
This design carries a combination of various symbols all associated with the Norse All father God, Odin. IN the center of the front is the "Valknut," three interlocking triangles which translates as the 'Knot of the Fallen.' To bear this mark signified that the wearer had dedicated their life to the service of Odin and, upon death, would be carried by his servants, the Valkyries, to Valhalla, where he would feast daily until the end of time when the warriors would emerge from the hall to fight the Hellbeasts.
Odin was known as Woden in ancient Britain, Wod meaning 'frenzy' and 'an' meaning "God." Warriors dedicated themselves to the Odinic path and strove to sacrifice their will, to allow possession by this entity. This manifested as the Berserker Rage endowing one's body with superhuman strength. However, Odin is not a God of War, but a God of Inspiration. The frenzy he bestowed was more of an inspiration to fight. He is God of Magic, Consciousness, and the Arts, as Hermes was for the Greeks.
On this piece, flanking the Valknut are Odin's two Ravens, Hugin (thought) and Munin (memory). They represent the fusion of the left and right hemispheres of the brain, creating a direct energetic current through the chakras. The runes in the top border are Man and Yr, Life and Death. In the center is the Tyr, or the Warrior Rune. This imparts Eternal Life through Reincarnation, and eliminates fear of Death.
The Runes along the bottom border spell Valhal, meaning the hall of the slain, the Nordic Heaven. The Rune at the apex of the pyramid is "Odal," signifying the Magical Enclosure, which channels and contains Protective Energies for the wearer. It is said that as berserkers lay dying on the battlefield, they would carve these runes on their breasts as a last gesture to their commitment to Odin. To reach Valhalla was the highest honor attainable.
On the other side of this protective talisman, in the center, is "Odhroerir," the symbol of the poetic mead of inspiration. The symbol shows three interlocking drinking horns, Odhroerir, Bodh, and Son, the names of the three vessels in which the mead was stored. Also on the other side, Odhroerir is spelt in runes along the bottom border. The top contain Os and Gibor runes, which combined mean the Gift of Consciousness, the Cosmic breath, and the Power of Creativity through word and song. The Gar rune in the center is symbolic of Gungnir, Odin's spear, thought to be a microcosm of the Cosmic Axis, or World Tree, representing honor bound oath and righteousness.
